Farm Fresh Eggs
About Our Hens:
A unique mix of breeds they live under the fir trees in a deep compost litter coop we built the summer of 2019 and rebuilt this past winter.
Their deep compost bedding is a living compost pile. We layer 18 inches of wood chips over time and stir it regularly. It encourages scratching and digging as they find worms and other insects, giving them protein & keeping them entertained, while they create great compost.
The Hens get daily access outside in the yard (weather permitting-as long as it's not raining hard) where they clean up after the pigs while the pigs nap.
We feed them a pelleted ration to make sure they get their vitamins, but they also get access to cut microgreens flats, extra or unusable garden veggies and hay.
About The Eggs:
A beautiful mix of all shapes, sizes & colors. From beautiful light blue to dark speckled brown. My personal favorite are the eggs from the hens we bred here on the farm. We bred them a few years back and they give a beautiful range of colors - from light baby blue to a green with olive green speckles.
